How is Pro Subi funded?

The City of Subiaco obtains funds for marketing the Subiaco town centre through a special levy applied to all commercial buildings within a certain area. The levy may or may not be passed on to tenants by landlords of commercial buildings. Pro Subi submits its annual program to the City of Subiaco for approval. The program and budget are approved by Council and designated funds are paid to Pro Subi in four equal instalments.

How does Pro Subi make decisions on how money is spent?

All expenditure over $2,000 is submitted to the Board in a formal proposal, which typically includes an options analysis, summary of issues and benefits, level of alignment with market research, and any relevant background information. A majority of Directors are required to vote in favour of a proposal for it to proceed.

How do I become a member of Pro Subi?

Simple. If your business is in the levied area (map above), you are eligible to become a member. Simply complete the online form on the registration page.

I have an idea. How can I put it forward?

Pro Subi welcomes your ideas and feedback. Simply email info@prosubi.com.au, or telephone 9382 8400.

Are Board members paid?

No. Pro Subi’s Board is fully comprised of non-remunerated Directors who volunteer their time and expertise freely for the benefit of all Pro Subi’s 400 members.

How can I join the Pro Subi Board?

Firstly, you need to contact Pro Subi to express your interest. A meeting time will be set-up with the Chairman and the Executive Officer. You may also apply to attend a Board Meeting as an Observer. If you wish to proceed, you will need to submit a CV or summary of your experience to the Chairman, who will then circulate it to the Board for a vote.

Can Pro Subi lobby on issues of concern for local businesses?

Pro Subi is not a lobbying body. While Pro Subi regularly represents members’ views to key stakeholders, such as the City of Subiaco, we unfortunately cannot lobby on issues such as parking, local infrastructure issues (eg. lighting) or retail trading hours.

What is the difference between Pro Subi and the City of Subiaco?

Pro Subi and the City of Subiaco are entirely separate entities. The City of Subiaco is the Local Government Authority responsible for the greater Subiaco area, which includes parts of Nedlands and Shenton Park. Pro Subi is a wholly independent, not-for-profit company, engaged by the City of Subiaco to provide a marketing service. Pro Subi is governed by a Board of Directors, not the City of Subiaco. However, Pro Subi maintains a close relationship with the City of Subiaco and actively seeks out opportunities to work together with the city for the benefit of members.

Who does Pro Subi sponsor?

Pro Subi is a major sponsor of the Subiaco Business Association. Pro Subi also sponsors the Subi Farmers Market, and the City of Subiaco’s Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists, Tim Winton Award for Young Writers and Local History Awards.

Why does Pro Subi sponsor the Subi Farmers Market?

The Pro Subi Board determined the following benefits of sponsoring the Subi Farmers Market:

  • The market differentiates Subiaco from other competing precincts – Perth City, Claremont Quarter, Leederville, Mount Lawley etc.
  • It provides a unique selling proposition/offer
  • It attracts visitors who would normally not come into Subiaco
  • Approximately 2,500 to 3,000 people visit the market every Saturday
  • It adds diversity to the shopping offer in Subiaco
  • It is a community asset
  • It builds, promotes and supports the brand of Subiaco
  • It promotes the spirit, uniqueness and village atmosphere of shopping in Subiaco

The following are key research findings about the Subi Farmers Market, undertaken in February 2011:

  • 72 per cent of visitors to the market shop in Subiaco before or after visiting the market; and
  • 66 per cent of visitors to the market did not visit Subiaco on a Saturday prior to the market starting.
